Google To Acquire Nuclear Reactors For Data Centers

Google has entered into the world's first corporate agreement to acquire small nuclear reactors manufactured by Kairos Power. Under the agreement, Kairos Power will produce the first such reactor by 2030, and by 2035, Kairos Power will deploy several small nuclear reactors for Google's use. Google has yet to disclose the agreement details or the location where Kasiros Power will build the reactors. Google is considering 500 megawatts of electricity, which six or seven small reactors will provide. The reactors are relatively low power when compared to most modern reactors. Late last year, Kairos Power received permission to build a demonstration reactor in Tennessee. Its capacity will probably be 50 MW. Some experts believe that small nuclear reactors will not be able to provide the necessary savings, and electricity will be more expensive than that produced by large reactors at large power plants. Small reactors will also produce nuclear waste.

Tesla Optimus Robots Secretly Controlled By Humans

According to the South China Morning Post, last week's Tesla presentation, featuring Optimus humanoid robots that interacted with the company's guests, was initially supposed to follow a completely different scenario. First, no one originally planned to demonstrate robots during the event. Elon Musk demanded that the Optimus robots be included three weeks before the event. Tesla did not sufficiently develop the software to control the robots. Tesla did not trust the robots to interact with event attendees. Human operators nearby controlled many of the robots from a distance during the presentation. Sources familiar with the specifics of the event's preparation explained that the robots could move their legs, but operators carried out more complex actions. Demonstrating the robots still worked in a sense since many participants enthusiastically shared their positive impressions of interacting with them, including small dialogues.

Microsoft Neural Networks Not Reliable For Medical Consultations

A group of scientists at the Friedrich Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany, evaluated the benefits of AI and chatbots that can provide medical advice to users. The preliminary results of scientific work revealed that the advice of the Microsoft neural network can be dangerous to health. The experiment was conducted with Microsoft's Copilot neural network built into Windows. Doctors were surprised that half of Copilot's advice needed to be corrected. The researchers asked the chatbot ten popular questions related to 50 medical issues. The team sent 500 requests. 54% of the answers were valid. The problem is that much of the advice needed to be corrected. 22% could lead to cardiac arrest. 42% can cause mild or moderate harm to the body. 36% of incorrect answers did not pose a threat. Scientists concluded that although AI has great potential, a neural network cannot replace a doctor's consultation.

Apple Research Shows AI Does Not Think, It Just Mimics Thinking

Apple researchers have found that large language models such as ChatGPT are incapable of logical thinking and need clarification if insignificant details are added to the task. The research raises the question of artificial intelligence's ability to think logically. The study showed that large language models can solve simple mathematical problems, but adding insignificant information leads to errors. Mehrdad Farajtabar, one of the researchers, explains that such errors indicate that LLMs do not understand the essence of the problem, but simply reproduce patterns from training data. The researchers hypothesized that the decline in efficiency is due to the fact that modern LLMs are incapable of genuine logical reasoning; instead, they try to replicate the reasoning steps observed in their training data. Does this mean that LLMs can't reason? It's possible. No one has yet given an exact answer since there is no clear understanding of what is happening.

TikTok Transfers the Jobs of Hundreds of Employees to Artificial Intelligence

ByteDance, the company behind TikTok, is laying off more than 700 employees in Malaysia and replacing their roles in the company with artificial intelligence. According to Reuters, most employees that the company replaced were involved in checking and moderating content on TikTok. These employees ensured that the videos complied with TikTok's community guidelines. On the other hand, ByteDance now automates this process. The company says it has found that AI systems can automatically remove about 80% of content that violates its guidelines. ByteDance hopes this can make content moderation faster and more efficient. Layoffs aren't just happening in Malaysia. TikTok says there will also be layoffs in other countries as it plans to use AI for content moderation globally. A TikTok spokesperson told Reuters that despite the layoffs, the company plans to spend $2 billion on trust and safety initiatives globally this year.

Wikipedia Attacked By AI-generated False Information

Wikipedia launched a new initiative called WikiProject AI Cleanup. It's a volunteer task force that is currently reviewing Wikipedia articles, editing or removing misinformation that seems to have been published by people using generative artificial intelligence. Ilyas Lebleu, one of the cleaning group's founders, stated the crisis began when Wikipedia editors and users started to see excerpts that were undoubtedly written by a chatbot. The team confirmed this theory by reproducing some excerpts using ChatGPT. For example, Ai created an article about an Ottoman fortress named Amberlisihar, built in 1400. The 2,000 word article describes in detail the location and construction of this area. Unfortunately, Amberlisihar does not exist, and all the information about it is a complete hallucination, supplemented with facts for a bit of confidence. The problem is not new. Remember Tay, Microsoft's Twitter bot? The bot was removed in less than 24 hours when it started posting vulgar and racist messages.

Google Gemini Chatbot Image Generation Available Now

Google announced at the end of August 2024 that image generation would become available through Gemini, but it is only now that the capability has become a fact. Now, any user can ask the chatbot to generate any graphics for which the Imagen 3 model will be responsible. It allows users to create beautiful images with high detail and low unwanted artifacts. In addition, each graphic will have a resolution of 2048 x 2048 pixels, which is much higher than the direct competition. For example, Dall-E 3 provides images with a resolution of 1024 x 1024 pixels. The pictures are created based on conversations with the chatbot, so users can refer to the graphics they have just generated to change them. It is not always possible to achieve the desired results, but users admit they are very good. For the time being, the chatbot will not create images of humans. That opportunity will be made available to Gemini Advanced subscribers later.
